Master printmaker Lee Chul Soo is recognized among the foremost of contemporary Korean artists for his woodcut prints. His first major exhibition took place in Seoul in 1981, his work has been displayed in Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, the United States, and many Korean cities. Lee's woodcuts are characterized by their graphic minimalism and laconic prose. His art is a reflection of his life as a farmer, Zen practitioner, and artist/poet. He attempts to reach all people with his art, bearing universal themes without boundaries or borders. Thematically Lee expresses a deep respect for nature, family and a quiet contemplative way of life. Living with his wife on a small farm in rural Korea, Lee Chul Soo grows most of his own food, writes poetry, and makes his prints by hand in the traditional way.
